September 10, 2015,US FDARelease the news and confirm that the first two of the seven important rules under the framework of the Food Safety Modernization Act have been completed. These two rules focus on prioritizing the prevention of foodborne diseases, aligning imported food with domestically produced food standards, and collaborating with state and local governments to create a comprehensive national food safety system.
According to recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States, it is estimated that approximately 48 million people (or 1 in 6 Americans) suffer from foodborne diseases each year, with approximately 128000 people seeking medical treatment as a result, resulting in 3000 deaths from foodborne diseases each year; The outbreaks of various foodborne diseases in the past few years, from spinach to peanut products, have also shown that food safety issues urgently need to be continuously improved. The two currently established rules have set up a modern food safety system channel for everyone, which not only has the effect of preventing diseases, but also builds confidence in providing safe food to every household persistently.
The two prevention and control rules currently completed focus on modernizing the production process of human and animal food; It will ensure that food companies take action, collaborate with the FDA, and put risk prevention for consumers at the forefront, rather than waiting until an outbreak occurs before taking action.
The prevention and control rules require human and animal food manufacturers to develop and implement written food safety plans, identify potential issues that may affect product safety, and list measures that can prevent or significantly reduce the occurrence of these potential problems. This means that food companies must be responsible for monitoring and inspecting potential hazards in their products, and preventing their occurrence. According to these two rules, the FDA will be able to effectively evaluate the operation and results of these systems to prevent potential problems, and to better respond to food safety issues and ensure food safety.
By 2016, all seven rules within the framework of the Food Safety Modernization Act will be completed, and these rules will work together to systematically strengthen the food safety system and protect human health.
